Chilly Discoveries

As the weather finally changes, so are our explorations in the computer lab.

Kindergarten is using Sunburst software to explore letter sounds.

First Grade is exploring the SHIFT key in Microsoft Word, learning how to search for clip art, and exploring options of how to resize clip art.

Second Grade is learning how to make movies with Kerpoof using a basic timeline to create a fun animation.

Third Grade is gearing up to review their drawing tools and create a snowman. When they finish their snowman, they will export their picture and add a voiceover using Blabberize.

Fourth Grade had fun with their Turkey Tagxedo before the break. They had to type a list of 20 words using Microsoft Word and copy and paste them to create a word cloud. Next they will be creating Microsoft Word "How To's". Each student will learn how to take a screen shot, crop their screen shot, and change the layout of an image.

Keyboarding into November

Kindergarten is working each week to learn new letters on the keyboard. With each letter we learn, we are typing words into an alphabet book in PowerPoint.

First Grade is busy typing short sentences, formatting text, and learning some basic Word functions.

Second Grade is typing sentences about their Greek gods and goddesses. Next week we will use these sentences as our scripts to Blabberize our Greek drawings.

Third Grade is using Dance Mat Typing to work on our keyboarding skills. We are also learning about how to be a great entrepreneur using Ice Cream Truck.

Fourth Grade is reviewing Microsoft Word. We are learning how to "delete" sentences, "enter" to break-up text, highlight one word or multiple words, and all the other basic text formatting functions. Next up, we will cut and paste, and then we will type a short story or poem to test our skills.

Halloween Happenings - October 17 - 21

Kindergarten: Meet our new friend Daniel Cook! This fun, interactive site offers our friends lots of fun experiences supporting their cognitive, language and motor development.

First Grade: We've started to find the letters on our keyboard by using Marcelino's Letters. We've also practiced typing Halloween jokes, the alphabet, and Halloween words with Microsoft Word.

We are also practicing putting together sentences and words using these fun, online applications:

Second Grade: We are drawing our Greek Gods and Goddesses this week. next week we will try to make them talk using Blabberize.

Third Grade: We are practicing our text tools and moving back and forth between applications. First, we opened a PowerPoint slide, created an acrostic,  used Kerpoof to create an image, saved our image as a .jpg, and then inserted our image onto our slide! It was a lot of hard work.

Fourth Grade - Next week you can view our interactive, haunted houses. They include an original drawing of our haunted house, hyperlinks, animations, and some voice recordings! They have been a lot of fun to make.

The End of September - (26th-30th)

Kindergarten - We've been working on fundamental math concepts and thinking skills with Millie's Math House, and we've been exploring sounds and letters with Bailey's Book House. These software programs are also helping us with our mouse-clicking skills.

First and Second Grade - Did you know that you don't have to use KidPix to make a picture? This week we learned about an online site where we can create pictures, tell stories, and spell words. It's called Kerpoof and it's a lot of fun!

Third Grade - We just finished our last drawing lesson. We can move, rotate, and group objects! We can even duplicate them, send them to the front/back, and delete them. Each third grader is using our drawing tools to create a pumpkin with attitude! Check back soon to see our creations.

Fourth Grade - Do you know how to animate or add a voice recording and music? Join us in fourth grade as we create an interactive haunted house and explore animations, voice recordings, and music. We will also learn how to take screen shots and use free clip art from the web. It's going to be a spooktacular good time! We are also working on our keyboarding skills with Mavis Beacon.

September 6-16th

Kindergarten just started their computer journey! We've been learning about our mouse and how to left click. We've also been working hard to double-click. To help us practice we've explored Sammy's Science House and several other online apps (Bees and Honey and Connect the Dots).

First Grade is working on Mouse Skills using ABCya to assist with clicks, double-clicks, and mouse movement. We also watched and listened to the story called The Dot by Peter Reynolds. It's not easy drawing in computer class, but no matter what we draw, we can make our mark. We've also had a quick refresher lesson about KidPix and have also explored Numbers Undercover to work on some Math Skills.

Second and Third Grade are using Kidspiration to learn about graphic organizers. We've learned how to move objects, replace objects with pictures, and explored drawing tools. Check out some of the third grade projects!

Fourth Grade has been busy at work creating and inventing their chocolate. They've carefully selected their geometric shape after learning about them in math class, have used drawing tools, and have calculated the weight. here's a preview of some unfinished, yet great products! Don't they make you hungry?

August 29th - September 2

First Grade explored Build Yourself Wild. They created a half human/half animal avatar. We reviewed links (one click) and opening windows and applications (two clicks). In addition, students explored Numbers Undercover to practice money, time, and counting.

In Second & Third Grade students are learning about Kidspiration. They are creating 'All About Me' graphic organizers and are learning about object manipulation, drag-drop, saving, and clip art creations.

Fourth Grade is busy reviewing drawing skills and working on their first STEM project: inventing a chocolate candy.
